Product Description

Wraparound pipeline sleeve is designed for corrosion protection of buried and exposed steel pipelines, especially for corrosion protection of oil and gas petrol-pipeline, water pipeline. Wraparound sleeve consists of a cross linked polyolefin backing, coated with a hot-melting adhesive which effectively bonded epoxy(FBE), polypropylene (PP) and coal tar enamel(CTE).

The pipeline sleeve provides excellent resistance to cathodal disbandment resulting in effective long period corrosion protection. The high stress environments. The pipe line sleeve povides the steel pipeline a superior seal and excellent insulation from moisture, water and other corrosion substrates.

Two different configurations are available for flexibility installation.

1-The wrap sleeve configuration (WSS) consists of one piece of PE+ADHESIVE sheet and one piece of closure strip or seal tape.

2-The wraparound sleeve (WSC) incorporates one piece of pre-attached closure strip with clip button, which has been sued resulting in quick and reliable field installation.

Technical Specification of Heat Shrinkable Sleeves

Sleeve Configuration (WSS & WSC)

WSS/WSC is heat shrinkable sleeve consists of cross-linked polyolefin backing and hot melt adhesive layer.

The sleeve can be installed directly on the steel surface or using an epoxy primer layer.

The sleeve withstand pipeline operating temperature up to 85ºC.

Application Procedure of WSS/WSC Heat Shrinkable Sleeve

1.Surface Preparation

1-1. Clean the joint area (steel and adjacent pipe coating) with a solvent cleaner to remove the presence of oil, grease, and other contaminants.

1-2 Ensure that the pipe is dry before blast cleaning ( steel surface preparation is SIS-055900-SA2). Gently abrade the pipe coating adjacent to a distance of 50mm (2")beyond each end. Then using wipe clean or air blast the steel and pipe coating to remove foreign contaminants.

2. Preheat the Joint Area

Preheat the joint area to 65±5 by propane torch and using temperature measuring device to ensure that the correct temperature is achieved on the steel surface and 50mm on each side of the coated pipe.

3. Epoxy Primer Application

Properly mixed two-component epoxy. Paint the epoxy primer using brush or applicator pad to DFT of 75 microns, wait for 15 minutes to allow epoxy to dry.

Note that: for off shore P/L the epoxy is not recommended and it is recommended to apply the sleeve directly on the steel pipe surface.

4. Install Heat Shrinkable Sleeve

4-1 Gently remove the release plastic about 150mm from the end. Place and center the sleeve over the joint area at right angle to the axis of the pipe.

4-2 Wrap the sleeve loosely around the pipe ensuring the overlap of 100mm both sides, heat the backing of the underlap and the adhesive side of the overlap. Center the sleeve over the joint area. Press the overlap area into place and remove the remaining release plastic.

5. Install Closure Seal Tape

5-1 Heat the adhesive surface of closure seal tape to melting. Then quickly center the closure on the overlap region.

5-2 Continuously heat the pasted closure seal to ensure the adhesive layer fully melting. Using a gloved hand, smooth the closure patch firmly down without without wrinkles. Roll out the closure area with a roller to push out the air voids.

6. Shrinkable the sleeve

6-1 Using a medium flame with yellow tip and keep it constantly moving in a paintbrush motion around the sleeve at the middle region of the sleeve. If utilizing two torches, operators should work on opposite sides of the pipe.

6-2 Continuously heating in a paint-brush motion from the center toward one end of the sleeve until shrinkable is completed. In a similar manner, heat and shrink the remaining circumference of the pipe joint.

6-3 Roll out the bubbles in shrinking process by silicone roller while the sleeve is still hot and soft and push any trapped air out of the sleeve. If necessary, reheat the area to roll and push any trapped air out.

6-4 After shrinking has been completed, the melting adhesive ran over both edges all around the circumference, appearance is smooth. Installation is completed. Visually inspect the installed sleeve is in full contact with the steel joint and adhesive flows beyond both sleeve edges and no crack or holes in sleeve backing.
